How To Choose A Domain Name

What You Need To Know When Picking Your Domain

The process of selecting your domain name is exciting – you’re finally taking big steps to launch your website! However, it can also be a frustrating process as you try to find a name that perfectly reflects your company and isn’t already taken! Today, we are going to show you how to choose a domain name. From online generators to best SEO practices, we’ll cover everything you need to know when getting started!

Using Your Name

One of the first ideas you will probably have for your domain is to use your company’s name. This is a fantastic option! It’s clear and to the point, and people only have to remember your company name! Using your name is also great for your SEO, as Google has another place to pick up your name as a keyword when people search for your company.

It looks like my company name is already taken…

Bummer. We know that it’s hard when someone else already has your company name for their domain. The first thing you will want to do is see if a different variation of your company name is available. Maybe add ‘co’ or ‘inc’ at the end. Shorten your name or try a slight variation that holds the same meaning.

For example, if the name you want is sprinklesicecream.com.

Try sprinkles.com, sprinklesicecreamco.com, or sprinklescreamery.com!

choose domain name

Include Keywords

Your domain name is a great place to sneak in extra keywords to improve your SEO. Think of keywords that you want to rank for and incorporate them into your domain! While we always promote using good long-tail keywords, when it comes to domain names, you’ll want to keep them short. Which brings us to…

Keep It Simple

Make sure that your name is short and easy to spell. People won’t be able to remember a long domain name, so you’ll want to make it clear and simple. Avoid using hard-to-spell words and special characters like dashes and exclamation points. If your name is too complicated to spell, it could take people a few times to get it right, and they might give up on finding your site entirely. Simplicity is key.

Make It Catchy

Make sure that your domain name is catchy and memorable! You want a clever name that will help people remember you. While you don’t want to be too obscure – see point above – you should try to do something fun with your name to help you stand out.

Use A Generator

Struggling to think of a good name? Try using a name generator! Domain generators can be helpful if you’re looking for inspiration or simply can’t think of anything you like. Just make sure that your generated name follows the best practices above! (Check out this blog from The Meisle for a list of great generators!)

These are just a few of the ways that you can go about finding the best domain name for your company! Of course, there are other things that you will want to consider when picking your domain, and you might want to ask a friend for help when you’ve got your options narrowed down. After that, you’ll just have to buy the domain, and you can launch your site! If you’re still wondering how to choose a domain name, contact us, and we would be more than happy to chat with you!

Are You Promoting Your Products and Services on Your Blog?

Are You Promoting Your Products and Services on your Blog

Are You Promoting Your Products & Services on Your Blog?

Learn How to Get The Most Exposure From Your Blog

If you are a business owner, you probably know how important a blog can be to your online presence. Blogs are an effective way to draw in new traffic, keep your search engine optimization up to par, and provide valuable information to your readers, which in turn builds that trust relationship. All in all, a blog can be a place where you are continuously generating content for your site to keep traffic rolling in. When you own a business and your products or services are not changing, it can be hard to keep that content fresh on your website. This is where a blog can be a great resource for you. Did you know that promoting your services and products on your blog can help increase your sales, too?

How can promoting services & products on my blog benefit my business?

First things first, we want to be sure to state that your blog should not be 100% promotional. It’s good to share other information and content on your blog as well, information about your business, your values, and helpful information when it comes to navigating the hard questions pertaining to your specific product or service. But sharing your products and services on your blog can help you reach a larger audience with the important information that your audience needs to know about what you do and who you are. To understand this a little bit better, let’s dive into Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization is the idea of Google and other search engines crawling your website and pages and indexing them on the search engine results pages for users to find as they search for relevant topics, questions, and so on. Search engines take many different things into account when they rank your pages against other competing pages, such as relevancy, domain authority, backlinks, and so much more. When you take the time to write blogs about your products and services, it will only help Google and other search engines understand more about what your business does and how to rank your website accordingly, showing your information to the people who will be most interested in what your business has to offer.

What are some creative ways to share and promote my services and products on my blog?

So, if you know that you can and should promote your services and products on your great blog, but sometimes we can all face a bit of writer’s block. What are some creative ways that you can start to share and promote your services and products on the blog without being too (for lack of better words) “salesy”? This can be tough; you have to get creative with how you promote your business. We have some creative ways that you can still promote your services or products without getting too pushy for the sale.

Highlight a product or service to give tips and tricks on it

Highlighting your products in the way of giving out advice, tips, and tricks is a great way to talk about your product or service, explain and share the advantages that come with it, while also helping your customers, or prospective customers see some of the best ways to use said product or service.

Group together products or services that go well together

A great way to feature some of your products and services is by grouping and featuring products or services that work well together and build off of each other. This can even be an incredible way to show off how your business is different from anyone else, how your products complement each other. Or maybe you have a series of products that have evolved over the years. This can also be a great way to show them off!

Overall, promoting your services and products on your company blog is a great way to improve your business. If you are not currently doing so, we would encourage you to start today! 5 Ways to Build Your Brand with Social Media

5 Ways to Build Your Brand with Social Media

Get Started Building Your Brand Today!

Building a brand on social media takes hard work, dedication, consistency, and sometimes help. It can be challenging to build up your brand especially if your accounts are new and still undiscovered which is why we want to talk about it! Stay tuned and you’ll learn lots of great tips and tricks for solidifying and building up your brand through social media.
Have you ever heard the statistic that the McDonald’s golden arches logo is more recognizable than the Cross of Jesus Christ? A study done in 2001 showed this fun fact and it is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to brand – but as you can see, McDonald’s has done it well! Your brand is about so much more than just your logo, color scheme, or imagery. Your brand is about who you are, the products or services you have, it’s about your values and the way you treat your clients, customers, or followers! The brand is a big mix of all these things and more – and you probably feel a little overwhelmed when it comes to trying to figure out how to navigate all of these things, especially in the realm of social media. So where do we go from here? We have a better understanding that your brand is a giant multifaceted idea. We know that building a brand is challenging, we know that we might need help…so what’s next? Well, let’s jump right into what things you can start doing TODAY to help build your brand up with your new or existing social media accounts.

1. Organize, update, or create all Social Media accounts

This is going to be the very first step for your brand on social media. Organizing, updating, and creating your social media accounts means: figuring out which social media accounts you want to use, deactivating any accounts you will NOT be using, creating any accounts you want to be using, updating all profile and cover images to be consistent not only to each other but to your brand in terms of colors, logos, etc. We suggest keeping a straightforward list of all the social media accounts you intend to use for your brand so that no one gets left in the dust. This organization will help you create a consistent ambiance for all of your social accounts and is a very important part of building your brand. If you don’t have a good brand logo or haven’t decided on brand colors yet – this will be your first step before you start on organizing and updating your accounts.

2. Determine the voice and tone of your brand

Chances are you already have an idea of the voice and tone of your brand. It doesn’t matter if you are an established business or a new business, you likely at least have some sort of inkling of how you want your brand to “sound”. For some businesses their voice and tone are strictly professional and informative, for others it might be playful and funny, and for others still it might just be straightforward and honest. Each of these tones and “voices” are going to work for different brands depending on what their goals are. For example, if you’re a law office, you likely are going to have a professional and informative approach because you want to let your clients or prospective clients know that you would take their case seriously and you have the knowledge and ability to help them. Or maybe you are a personal trainer who decided to take a straightforward and honest approach to your social accounts. This could benefit you in finding clients who are ready to hear the truth about the hard work that needs to be done to reach their fitness goals…the point is, that your brand will be unique, so think about the way that you function and what you want to portray through your social accounts. This should help you determine the voice and tone of your brand. One thing to remember with your voice and tone is to try to keep it consistent. Consistency harbors trust and builds that relationship with your followers.

3. Post regularly

This point is so underrated…you probably have heard that you need to be posting regularly, but this is so important. Posting regularly and often shows your social presence, it reminds people that you’re there, that you exist, and it gives them an opportunity to continue to get to know you and your brand better, which only will help build your brand up as time goes on. Social media is a free resource – so don’t waste it!

4. Create good visuals

Visuals are everything when it comes to your brand….meaning that good visuals can take your entire brand (even nonvisual aspects) to the next level. Use editing apps such as Canva, Crello, or Adobe Spark if you have an Adobe account or you can create an account for free. These apps will help you create polished, consistent visual content that can help your brand shine in the way you want it to. Some editing apps even allow you to create a “brand kit” where you save colors and logos for easy use as you continue to create social content.

social media platforms

5. Keep track of your stats

Statistics are an incredibly powerful tool when it comes to social media – so make sure that you are keeping track of yours. Collect data for 3 months from your social accounts, when the 3 months are done, go through and delicately and thoroughly analyze the data set to try and draw any conclusions possible. Take a look at what things worked, and what things didn’t work. What content do people engage with the most and what content do people just seem to scroll on by? All of these conclusions from your data will help you better your approach as you go forward. Never stop gathering data, but we suggest that every 3 months or ¼ of a year you analyze your data set and adjust your social media approach as necessary.

These five things are simple steps that you can start today in order to build your brand using social media. If you need help strategizing your social media plan or building your brand, contact us today! We have a team of dedicated marketing professionals that is happy to sit down and talk to you today.

3 Ways to Check Your Website’s Mobile Responsiveness

3 Ways to Check Your Website's Mobile Responsiveness

Make Sure Your User Experience is Responsive Across All Devices- Especially Mobile!

In today’s world of smartphones, tablets, and laptops – it’s more important than ever to have a website that is completely mobile responsive. If you are unfamiliar with what mobile responsive means, let’s give you a little refresher. Mobile responsiveness means that your website is designed in a way that certain elements such as imagery and text will adjust based on the device that is being used. If you want to read more about how a mobile responsive website can affect your user experience, check out one of our recent blogs here. Ensuring that your website is mobile responsive can make the biggest difference when it comes to your user experience – so how can you check your own website’s mobile responsiveness?

Browserstack.com

The browser stack is a great tool to check the responsiveness of your website – and it’s one of our favorites here at Spectrum Net Designs! It allows you to toggle through tons of various devices to actually see what your website page will look like on any specific device. Browser stack does require you to set up a free account with them in order to utilize their mobile responsive testing – but it’s super simple and easy, just input the URL that you want to analyze and let Browser Stack do the rest.

Within Your Website Editor

If you use a simple drag-and-drop editor for your website pages such as Elementor (used with WordPress) then there is a simple way to check your mobile responsiveness. In the bottom left-hand corner, you can adjust your view between desktop, tablet, and mobile. These views allow you to make element adjustments in specific views of your web page. For example – if you view your page in mobile view and decide that you’d like your text center aligned in mobile but left aligned in desktop, you can easily make that change. If you’re just looking to check your mobile responsiveness, then those views are also a great way to see your pages individually. Check into whatever website provider you use to see what options there are for checking your website’s responsiveness.

ResponsiveDesignChecker.com

Responsive design checker is another simple tool to see your individual URLs in all of your desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile options. The great thing about responsivedesignchecker.com is that you can also put in any custom width or height size to see what your page would look like on a specific sized device as needed.

As you can see, there are many very helpful and even free tools out there to help you check your website’s responsiveness, so don’t settle for a website that doesn’t give your users the absolute best experience. If mobile responsiveness isn’t something you’ve ever really considered or maybe you need help attending to it – contact us today. We are happy to help you learn more!

How Often Should You Post To Your Blog

Getting the Most Out Of Your Content Marketing ~ Blogging Tips

Blogs have been evolving for years and are being used more and more by businesses, individuals, and organizations. They are a great way to increase traffic to your website while providing valuable information to the public about your company. Sharing general industry knowledge, or maybe some simple product insights, can help build relationships with users. One question that is frequently asked is how often you should post to your blog for maximum exposure and traffic. Another frequently asked question is, how to get the most out of your content marketing. As marketers, we can offer our perspective and share some blogging tips to help you take your blog to the next level.

Why is blogging important for my business?

Ultimately, we do not have a SET number of times a week or month that your business should be publishing new blogs. Since every business is different, posting content will be different as well. Generally speaking, for small businesses, 2-4 blogs per week would be ideal to start. Larger businesses might want to consider aiming for a 6-8 range of posts a week to maximize their content marketing. Keeping content fresh on your blog will help you increase new visitors and give Google tons of new stuff to crawl. All in all, blogs will help you maximize your content marketing efforts and build up your business and brand.

How often should you post to your blog?

Ultimately, we do not have a SET number of times a week or month that your business should be publishing new blogs, but generally speaking, for small businesses, 2-4 blogs per week is about where most businesses should be. Larger businesses and corporations might want to consider aiming for the 6-8 range of published posts a week to maximize content marketing in the best way possible. Keeping content new and fresh on your blog will help you increase new visitors and give Google tons of new stuff to crawl, which will help you maximize your content marketing efforts and build up your business and brand.

blogging tips

What Determines How Often You Should Post?

Goals:

  • What do you hope to achieve with posting blogs? Are you looking for more traffic? If so, then frequent blog posting will be beneficial for your business. If the focus is mainly on educating the audience and providing information, then longer-form, less-frequent posts are a better idea.

Competition:

  • If you are involved in a highly competitive market, that will influence how often you post. If your competition is regularly posting, then following suit to stay in the forefront of the competition would be beneficial.

Target Audience:

  • Take a step back and ask what your audience is looking for. Are they looking for daily content with tips and tricks? Or are they looking for long-form content that will give them more information?

Resources:

  • Take into consideration the time as well as personnel. Blogs can take time to research and create; having a larger team will make it easier to post more. If it’s a smaller team or even one person, then content might take more time to produce and publish.

What if I run out of things to write about?

This is a valid question in the world of blogging and content marketing, but we want to just encourage you to get creative. Blog content can cover a wide range of information, opinions, personal experiences, and more. We’ll give you an example… let’s say you own a used car lot and are trying to post 3 times per week. The options are endless when it comes to topics you could write about. You could blog about the advantages of buying a used vehicle, things to look for while purchasing a used car, or even seasonal maintenance care. Not to mention, you can post weekly updates about new inventory, or a monthly or weekly feature of a vehicle that you are trying to sell. When you feel like you are beginning to run out of ideas, you can utilize blogs and content that are relevant to your profession. These topics might not be directly related to used cars or the topic of selling used cars, but it is still valuable information for your audience. That valuable information helps with brand recognition, brand trust, and simply getting more people to know who your business is and what they do. If in the future they require a used car, they know exactly where to go.

Reposting or Repurposing

We haven’t even touched on the idea of content recycling either. It’s always good to revise, adjust, and re-post old content so that it is relevant and up to date. This is another good way to keep posting to your blog and keep content rolling. Repurposing can also mean that you expand or change up the information, perhaps more in line with a trending topic. Take a look at the content that is already there, and see how it is performing. Then you can evaluate if it would be a better use of your time to create new content or repurpose some old content. If blogs drop in rankings, refreshing them is worth it to work on optimizing them and making them more relevant.

Final Thoughts...

The best thing you can do is maximize your content marketing efforts by utilizing a blog for your business. Blogs look different for each business; it is not a one-size-fits-all program. We understand that not all companies have the time or resources to dedicate someone to take care of content marketing. That is to say, Spectrum Net Designs offers blog management and content management services for businesses around the USA. If you are interested in learning more about how that could work for your business, contact us today – we would be happy to help you in any way that we can.

Everything You Need to Know About Influencers

Everything You Need to Know About Influencers

Is Influencer Marketing right for your Company?

Influencer marketing has been on the rise over the past few years as another form of paid advertising. But what exactly are influencers? What can they do for your brand? Can they bring results? In this article, we will dive into everything that you need to know about influencers to help you learn how to use influencer marketing and decide if it is a good marketing technique for your company.

What is an influencer?

In the broadest sense of the word, an influencer is an individual who has enough recognition to influence others in some way shape, or form. Companies pay influencers to promote their products and services on their social media to their followers. Generally, influencers have a lot of followers (think anywhere from a few thousand to a few million) who might hop on the bandwagon and buy a product if the influencer recommends it. There are a variety of levels of influencers, from celebrities that qualify as mega or macro-influencers, to micro influencers who have fewer followers and operate on a more local or niche level.

But influencers are just for makeup and supplements, right?

Not entirely! While influencers started strong in the world of fashion and beauty, they have by no means stayed there. The majority of influencers promote products and services related to a particular lifestyle. The term ‘lifestyle’ covers more traditional influencer areas such as (yes) makeup brands and clothing companies, but can also include outdoor enthusiasts, home décor specialists, healthy living experts, and food bloggers. This means that many more companies can take advantage of influencer marketing!

influencer marketing

So why should my company work with an influencer?

1. Reach

Influencers have tons of followers, which means that a ton of eyes will see your product. This will help with brand awareness and help more people learn about your company and product.

2. Authenticity

Many companies struggle with being authentic when promoting their products. People no longer trust everything that the company says about their product, and they don’t always trust famous people that a company hires to promote their product. Influencers (especially micro-influencers) provide an authentic review of a product because they are relatable. It makes a lot more sense that you would buy a new type of coffee after someone more like you tells you to compared to if a celebrity told you to go buy the brand. Users know that the influencer is getting paid for promoting the product, but it still feels more like your friend’s cool big sister is recommending a product to you instead of the company itself.

3. Your Paid Advertising is Slow

If your paid advertising isn’t delivering, it might be time to shake things up. You never know what results you might get from working with an influencer, but it wouldn’t hurt to set aside part of your marketing budget to see what happens! If you aren’t seeing results with one form of paid advertising, why not try something new?

4. Traditional Paid Advertising isn’t Available for Your Industry

Depending on what your company sells, you may not be able to take advantage of traditional paid social media marketing. For example, Facebook has rules as to what products can and can’t be advertised such as alcohol and tobacco. However, a liquor company may pay a mixology influencer to promote their brand to reach more people who would be interested in purchasing their product.

how to use influencer marketing

So how do I get started?

First things first, pick the platform your target audience is most actively engaging on. You don’t want to be paying someone to promote your product on Pinterest if the majority of your audience doesn’t use it! Next, find an influencer that you want to work with. Make sure that their image reflects the type of customer you are trying to reach and that you are comfortable associating your brand with them. You can reach out to famous influencers, find micro-influencers in your field, or reach out to current customers to become brand ambassadors. Regardless of who you pick, research them to make sure that they are a good fit. Once you’ve connected with your influencer, lay out what both parties are expecting to get out of the partnership. Some influencers might be fine being paid with free products from your company, while others will require a specific dollar amount per post. It all depends!

We hope that this has been a helpful overview of what influencers are and how to use influencer marketing. We recommend putting in a lot of research before hiring an influencer to make sure that their follower base makes sense for your product and that you know the influencer can promote your brand well. While it can sometimes be hard to measure the impact of influencers (there isn’t as much hard data as you would get from an ad on Facebook), if you connect with the right influencer there can be a huge impact on your company.

How Does A Mobile Responsive Website Affect User Experience

Does Mobile Responsive Really Matter?

Is your website mobile responsive? What does mobile responsive actually mean? Is mobile responsive different from “mobile friendly”? These might be a few questions that have crossed your mind while hearing the terms “mobile responsive” or “mobile friendly” – and they are valid questions to be asked. According to Statista in 2019, a whopping 3.2 billion people were smartphone users. Let that sink in for a minute: 3.2 billion mobile device users, and that is not even counting other mobile devices such as tablets. Seeing that large number of mobile users hopefully sparks an idea of how important having a website that is accessible on mobile devices is. Let’s break down the term “mobile responsive” so that we can understand the term a little bit better and hopefully gain some understanding of how it can affect your users’ experience.

What IS mobile responsive web design?

Mobile Responsive Web Design is a fairly simple idea, but not as simple an idea to bring to fruition. A mobile responsive website is a website that is designed to adjust certain aspects or elements of the web page based on the device that is being used. These elements mainly include text, images, and buttons but truly carry across the board to all parts and pieces of your site. The flexible and adjusted elements of your site should allow for a much more basic and straightforward user experience, eliminating the need to zoom in on text or buttons or horizontal scroll to see various elements of the web page.

Mobile responsive vs. mobile friendly

Hopefully, you now have a good understanding of mobile responsive – so what is the difference between mobile responsive and mobile friendly? Mobile friendly is a generic term that refers to a website that can be used on both mobile devices and desktop devices without changing or shifting any elements – only the scale of the sight changes. This can make certain parts of a website challenging such as menu navigation.

What Are Alt Attributes & How Do They Affect My SEO

When it Comes to Search Engine Optimization – All The Little Things Matter

If you have a website and have even looked into Search Engine Optimization for your website, you likely have heard terms such as “header tag”, “title tag”, “alt text”, “meta description”, “off page optimization” and a plethora of other verbiage that may or may not go over your head. If you are someone who is at least a little familiar with the basic terms of Search Engine Optimization, including alt attributes, bear with us as we get more in depth. Alt attributes are just ONE small portion of all the various things that search engines consider while determining your website’s rank for various keywords and key phrases. So let’s dive into what they are, why they are important, and how they can affect your website’s Search Engine Optimization.

What Are Alt Attributes?

Let’s start at the beginning. An alt tag, otherwise known as “alternative text” or also known as “alt attributes” in very simple terms is HTML code attached to an image that describes what the image is. An alt tag should be descriptive enough to encompass the entirety of what is in the image without going overboard on length. We understand that it can be challenging when looking at the entire “grey” area of alt attributes, but as you continue to learn more about what alt text is and how to use it, we are confident that you’ll have no trouble. An alt attribute is in a sense an alternative way to understand imagery without the need to “see” the image, but rather read it.

Why Are Alt Attributes Important?

So why are alt attributes important and how can they affect SEO? Alt text is important for two main reasons, accessibility for vision impaired web visitors as well as your websites Search Engine Optimization. Image alt text was originally and primarily put in place to assist in the accessibility of websites for visitors that might need visual aid. So by utilizing alt text you are allowing ALL users to access your site. Alt attributes are also an important part of SEO as well. If you are familiar with how Search Engines read websites, you know that millions of bots are sent out all over the web to crawl all websites, as well as the content within websites, including text, images, titles, links and more! These bots can’t read images, so in order for us to communicate with them we use alt attributes!

why alt attributes are important

How Can Alt Attributes Affect My Website SEO

How To Celebrate Memorial Day 2020

How To Celebrate Memorial Day 2020

Celebrating Memorial Day During Covid-19 and Social Distancing

Celebrating a holiday in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic might seem like a little bit of a bummer. Generally, the summer holidays mean a BBQ with friends, or a day on the lake if we are lucky with Michigan’s weather. This year with social distancing measures in place, your memorial day celebrations might look a little bit different, so we decided to share with you just a few of the ways that you can still celebrate Memorial day, even in the midst of Covid-19 and social distancing.

Go to a park & have a picnic

Thankfully in the midst of covid-19 going outside has not been cancelled. Assuming the weather is nice, a picnic is a great way to get outside, enjoy the weather, and spend some time with your quarantine buddies. Grab a blanket, pack a lunch, and head out to your favorite park to enjoy. If you do choose to go out for a picnic, we suggest to be mindful of social distancing best practices and just try to be as safe as you can be.

man-outdoor-meal-food-park-basket-1067034-pxhere.com_.jpg

Make your favorite drink to sip outside

Another great way to enjoy Memorial Day this year is to stay home and enjoy the weather from your lawn or patio. Prepare your pantry, fridge, and freezer before hand with the ingredients to make your favorite meal and drink and enjoy them outside with a good book. It might be a change of pace to spend the holiday at home, but it is a great opportunity to slow down, catch up on some reading while enjoying some of your favorite treats.

Work on a puzzle

Puzzles are for all seasons, including the covid-19 season. Nothing is more satisfying than looking at the finished product of hours of hard work, so get your brain moving and working by starting a puzzle over your holiday! One of the great things about puzzles is that you can do them inside, outside, or anywhere you can fit them. So, prepare for this Memorial Day by grabbing whoever you are quarantined with and stretching your brains to the limits by working on your favorite puzzle together. If puzzles are not your speed, break out a few of your favorite card or board games and do those instead!

Go on a bike ride, walk or hike

Another great way to enjoy the outdoors this Memorial Day is to head outside for a bike ride, walk, or hike. Head out for some alone time or grab your quarantine friends to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise too!

We know that everyone is being affected in some way or another by Covid-19, but we hope that these few ideas of how to still celebrate Memorial Day this year will help you enjoy your holiday even in the middle of this pandemic and social distancing.

Instagram Paid Advertising – Is It Worth It?

Instagram marketing

Instagram Paid Advertising – Is It Worth It?

Is Instagram the right platform to advertise on?

At the end of 2019, Instagram was the second most popular mobile social media app in the United States. 63% of Americans use it daily for an average of 28 minutes a day (for more Instagram stats, check out our blog here). That is a lot of eyes spending a lot of time scrolling, that your company could be taking advantage of. The platform started offering paid ads at the end of 2013 and has been expanding its advertising capabilities ever since. This is by no means a new development in the world of social media marketing. However, you may be wondering if it is worth it for your company to jump into the world of Instagram paid advertising. We believe that Instagram is a fantastic advertising platform that can help you expand brand reach and increase conversions.

There are two main types of paid advertising on Instagram that companies can choose to implement: traditional paid advertising and working with influencers. Let’s break down each of these types of Instagram paid advertising.

Traditional Ads

This is likely the type of advertising that your marketing team is used to producing for other platforms, such as Facebook. These ads will show up in users’ newsfeeds and Instagram stories, flowing seamlessly with other posts. This smooth flow between organic and paid content is visually appealing to users and makes them more amenable to interacting with your ads. Instagram has a potential ad reach of 849.3 million users, so you better believe that your ads are going to be seen by your audience.

Because Instagram is an image-based platform, you will want to make sure that the graphics and imagery for your ads are impeccable. You should have an aesthetic for your Instagram feed, and your ads should fit the same theme to help with brand recognition. Show lifestyle imagery with your product in use, or artistically stage it with other products. You might also want to try advertising with video to catch people’s attention while they are scrolling through static images. Maintain the same visual features to fit with Instagram’s style, of course.

Setting up your paid advertising on Instagram is relatively easy, especially if you already run Facebook ads! Facebook owns Instagram, so when you go to run an ad on Instagram, you will be creating and monitoring it through Facebook Ads Manager. This simplifies the process, especially if you are planning on putting the same ad out on Facebook as Instagram! Make sure to research and then define your target audience for your ad, including interests, physical location, and age. Then get ready for all the great results from your ad!

Influencers

The other way for your company to implement paid advertising on Instagram is to work with an influencer. Influencers are individuals who are paid to promote a company’s products and services on their social media accounts. Companies take advantage of influencers’ huge number of followers to display their product to users from a more authentic point of view, as an influencer is giving their personal (although sponsored) opinion of the product. Their followers have been exposed to the company and its products and are likely to research the brand further.

When picking an influencer to promote your product, there are several things that you want to consider. First, there are different levels of influencers. Some influencers are celebrities and athletes who have millions of followers, while others are micro influencers who may only have a few thousand. Depending on how big an influencer is will depend on how much they charge per post, so figure out what will be best for your budget. While you might want to throw all your money at the biggest name you can get, that might not give you the best ROI. Sometimes, smaller influencers are more relatable and have a better relationship with their followers, making it more likely that users will convert and buy your product.

instagram influencers marketing
instagram influencers

Another thing to consider is the lifestyle that the influencer promotes. If your company sells high end shoes, you’ll want to partner with a fashion blogger – not an outdoor enthusiast. Unless of course your shoes are hiking boots! It’s important that your influencer would be part of your target audience sine their followers likely have similar interests and will fall into the same audience. You want to make sure you are paying to reach the people that are most likely to convert over and become customers!

The takeaway from all of this is that we do indeed think that Instagram paid advertising is worth it. Regardless of whether you choose to implement traditional paid advertising or work with an influencer, Instagram is a great place to promote your products and services. Getting Started with E-Commerce

Getting Started with E-Commerce

Expanding your brick and mortar store

The ability to shop online has drastically changed the way that people purchase clothing, technology, household goods, and even food! Most large retailers have moved into the world of e-commerce to compete with Amazon and other e-commerce giants. But what about small businesses? More and more local brick-and-mortar stores have been moving online to reach their customers and keep up with the industry. Have you been contemplating making the transition to selling online? There is a lot to consider when jumping into the world of e-commerce, but it’s nothing that your business can’t tackle as long as you are prepared!

Benefits of E-Commerce

Selling your products online has many benefits for your company and your customers. The first, and probably most important, is that you can now reach interested customers regardless of location! No longer do you have to cater solely to potential customers in your immediate area – you can sell to people on the other site of the country! Not only will this help increase your sales, it will also promote your brand across a much wider audience.

sell online with e-commerce

An additional benefit is that you are providing customers a new way to interact with your company and your products. People often research a product online before they buy it to compare different models, colors, brands, etc. You may even find people researching your product on their phone while in your store! Giving people the opportunity to get to know your product before they buy will help them in their decision-making process.

How to Start Selling

1. Have a Plan

Like any business venture, you will want to go into this major transition with a plan; otherwise, you might find yourself becoming overwhelmed. Contemplate your timeline for moving to an online store, who the main person monitoring it will be, and what your budget looks like for setting it up.

2. Create or Add to Your Website

If you don’t already have a website for your company – make one! If you do have one, there are likely plugins that can be used on your platform to easily give you online Point of Sale (POS) capabilities. For example, we would recommend the plugin WooCommerce for WordPress users.

3. Determine What You Want to Sell

When you’re contemplating what you want to sell online, it’s a good idea to start small. Listing everything you sell in your physical store probably sounds like a pretty daunting task. Start by listing your best-selling items when you first launch, and then continue adding items from there. This will help you test your online fulfillment capabilities, as well as see what people are interested in buying from you online. You may also want to determine what you truly don’t want to sell online. Maybe you have items that are priced lower than the cost it would take to ship them to a customer. If you are planning on offering free shipping, consider whether it will be worth it to sell those particular items online.

e-commerce small business

4. Design Your Online Store

You design your physical store layout for the best customer flow, make sure to do the same thing for your virtual store! Take the time to develop the shopping experience for your online store. Decide how you want customers to view your items, what the optimal page layout is to catch people’s eyes, and how many images should go along with each product.

You also need to design your checkout process. You will be able to customize your checkout features based on the e-commerce plugin you are using. Decide if people need to have a customer account or can check out as a guest, if they can pay with a credit card or will be sent an invoice, and if they need to provide any shipping information.

5. Shipping Capabilities

This will likely be one of the biggest changes for your company to adjust to. Depending on your business, you may have to wait for your online store to be up and running to figure out what shipping service will best accommodate your company’s needs. If you only find yourself sending out a few orders a week you can probably handle the process yourself. However, if the orders coming flooding in, you will likely want to partner with a shipping service.

shipping

Additionally, make sure that you have the product supply available to accommodate the number of orders you are getting. If you find yourself unable to ship a product because you are sold out, you will want to share that information on your website and keep customers updated. Once you understand the demand from your online store, you will be able to forecast how much of your product you need to make or order from your suppliers.

6. Mobile Responsive

Make sure that your e-commerce site works and looks good on people’s phones! We’ve mentioned that people will research a product on their phone even while they are in a physical store, so you will want to make sure that your site looks good! You can’t expect people to only be shopping from their laptop or desktop monitor – be prepared and have a mobile responsive site.

Once you’ve worked through your plan and followed the steps above, you’ll be ready to launch your e-commerce website! Make sure to get the word out by publicly announcing that customers can now shop online. Post on your social media, send a newsletter, hire a skywriter, however, you will best reach the people who need to know! If you have any other questions about starting your e-commerce store or are looking for some help setting it up, feel free to contact us here. We would love to help make your e-commerce dreams a reality!

In a culture that thrives on busyness, it can be hard to find a spare second to work on the ‘extra’ things that help to advance your company and build your brand. This extra time gives us the chance to focus on things that might be rushed through or forgotten about during a normal period. We want to share four productive things that you can do to for your company during this season.

Start A Blog

Blogging is a fantastic way to provide value to your users and help with rankings in search engine results. Maybe you want to learn more about Google Analytics to monitor your traffic, or want to step up your design game by learning how to use Photoshop. How To Boost Your Audience Through Facebook Live Videos

How To Boost Your Audience Through Live Videos

How To Boost Your Audience Through Facebook Live Videos

Building Your Following One Video At A Time

With social media taking marketing efforts to new levels, there are always new things to be learned and to be utilized when it comes to your marketing campaigns. Live videos are one newer feature that has gained popularity across the nation on social platforms. Facebook and Twitter live videos are not just great for your average Joe to stream a fun experience with their friends and family, but they also are an under-utilized resource for businesses to use in their marketing efforts. If you are a business and are not using live videos, read on below, and if you are a business that currently uses live videos but feels like you could improve your strategy, we can help you too!
Let’s start by exploring why Facebook live videos are so popular on social media, so often we see that little “live” icon pop up on someone we follow as they begin a stream that ends up saved and posted to their page. Live videos are raw and real, they are completely unedited and generally fairly transparent. Live streaming is a great way for a business to connect in a much more personal manner with its audience. In most cases, consumers appreciate transparency from the businesses they are buying from or working with. Transparency harbors trust builds your brand, and shows integrity – all of which are great characteristics for your business to draw in a new audience as well!
So, we know that live videos can be used as a tool for transparency for your business, but what other ways can you utilize live streams to boost your audience?

Show off new products or services

One way to use live videos on social media is to show off new products or services that your business or company is offering. This is a great way to connect with your existing audience to let them know what is happening on the business side of your company. If people are excited about the new product or service, they will likely share it with their friends, or even recommend it via social media by sharing your video which will quickly build up your audience through referrals. In addition to building your audience through your current followers, you also can utilize paid advertising on your live streams. Facebook allows you to promote your live stream videos making it simple to get your content in front of the right people at the right time.

Live stream events or gatherings

Streaming events or company get togethers is a great way to mix in a little bit of fun to your live streaming. Depending on your business, this approach might work better than others. For example, if you run a sports store, you might host a local 5k each year to promote your business and get the community together while being active. In this case, you might want to advertise that you’ll be live streaming the runners as they finish the race! This allows all of the family and friends of the runners to cheer them on from home or wherever they might be as well as get to know your business through your live video. Be sure to get creative when you start thinking about what events or get-togethers you can live stream – each industry and company is going to be different when it comes to finding what works for you!

How To Boost Your Audience Through Live Videos

Allow your audience to get to know your staff better

Staff streams are a great and fun way to allow your audience to get to know your business on a more personal level. The options are endless when it comes to how you can utilize staff in your live streams. If you are a company that doesn’t mind being a little laid back, you could do a live stream of fun get-to-know-you questions with each of your team members. If you want to take a more structured approach with the stream, you could put on an interactive question and answer time about a specific product or service – it would be a great idea to run a small campaign leading up to a question and answer live stream just to let people know when it’s happening so that they can have time to prepare any questions they might want to ask. Although a structured question and answer time will not provide the personal insight to your staff like get-to-know-you questions would, it is still a great way for your audience to talk personally with your staff when they normally might not be able to.

Be sure to show off your company culture

We are strong advocates for showing off your company culture to your audience. What makes your business unique, fun, and different from your competitors? What makes your employees love working for your company? Those are the things that you want to show off to your audience and live streaming is a candid way to do so. For example, if you are a smaller business that brings in donuts or something to celebrate each of your employee’s birthdays, it would be a great idea to live stream everyone talking over their food, maybe singing happy birthday, or even going over to ask the birthday employee what the best part of turning one year older is. Of course, this is just an example, there are tons of ways that you can showcase your company culture to your audience and allow them to “be a part” of your business virtually!

There are tons of different ways that businesses can use live videos to boost your audience and connect on a deeper level with the followers you already have – we hope that we have helped you discover a little better the different ways that your company can utilize the tools in front of you to help create a sense of transparency, trust, and familiarity from the people that you want to reach with your product and services all the while taking your social media marketing campaigns to the next level.

How to Build Your Brand with Instagram Stories

instagram stories marketing

How to Build Your Brand with Instagram Stories

One of the best ways to engage with your target audience

Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms that people engage with on a daily basis. It is used to connect with friends, family, and most importantly for you – companies. People regularly engage with brands on Instagram to stay informed about new products, special offers, and company events. The addition of Instagram stories and the ability livestream provided yet another outlet for individuals to engage with a company. Businesses need to take advantage of Instagram Stories marketing to build up their brand and connect with current and potential customers.

Building Your Brand

The first thing you want to do is decide how you plan to use Instagram Stories as an extension of your brand. Because stories offer a more personal touch, you want to properly shape how your company will be perceived by users. You might choose to use the platform to give people a fun behind the scenes look at your business, or you might want to maintain the same professional tone as the rest of your social media. This will likely depend on your industry as well as the preferences of your team. Make sure to have an outline of general does and don’ts so that everyone creating content and managing your Story is on the same page. This will help your Instagram Stories marketing to have a consistent presence regardless of who on your team is posting!

What to Post

This is the fun part! Stories and live streaming give you a whole new way to show content to your followers. Your company can choose to post virtually anything, but there are a few general categories that would be beneficial to focus on.

Your Product or Services

Stories are a perfect way for you to feature different aspects of your product or service. You can post product images, how-to videos for assembly, and show the product in use. This will put your product right in

audience instagram stories marketing

front of your viewers and will give them more reasons why they would want to buy your product or service. You can add a link to your Story that will allow customers to go directly to where the product is sold, making it easy for them to convert over from your post.

Promotional & Company Material

Want to feature a huge end of year sale? Put it on your Story. Have a big announcement about a new sponsorship? Put it on your Story. Just released a new blog? Put it on your Story. Anything big that you would want on your other social media platforms should get posted on your Story. It gives you yet another place to update your customers and promote your products.

Non-Promotional Content

This is probably the most essential content for you to be posting on your Instagram Story. While it’s important to promote your products and company, you want to use the personal aspect of Instagram Stories to provide your followers with valuable content. You can’t always be in selling mode or people will get sick of you – especially on Instagram. Say your company sells high-end cookware. Instead of just talking about how great a particular pan is, share a video of you cooking a recipe using the pan. Then, post the recipe and encourage other people to make it! This gives your followers a fun recipe to make even if they don’t have your specific pan and still shows off your product. The same company

cooking on instagram

may even try to move further away from their product by posting about how to prepare for a dinner party. One of the steps will obviously be cooking, but they can branch out and talk about things that have nothing to do with their product such as cleaning, decorating, and so on. Playing on the related interests of your followers will help you build your brand image and value in the eyes of your customers.

Engaging with Your Audience

Instagram Stories help followers build trust in your brand. They give users the chance to see the people behind your company which makes it easier for them to relate to your products and build a connection with your brand. A great way to encourage this process and to continually be engaging with your followers is to add interactive parts to your Story. Put in polls, ask a question, or add a quiz! Instagram makes it easy with pre-built templates, but feel free to come up with your own creative ideas as well! The topics of your polls and questions can just be for fun to learn about your followers, or you could ask for feedback about your product or service. Regardless, followers will be excited about the chance to engage and you will discover additional ways to build your relationship with them. Since people respond to their friend’s Instagram Stories every day, they will be comfortable sending direct messages to your company. It won’t feel as harsh as going to a website and sending in a contact form, which will hopefully lead to more customer engagement. Be ready to respond to a lot of direct messages and have someone continually checking in to answer questions.

Influencers

Influencers are people on social media who use their large number of followers to promote products for other companies. There are both major influencers such as celebrities who have millions of followers and micro influencers who may just have a few thousand. Companies partner with specific influencers who fit the image of their target customer. Afterall, an influencer’s followers probably share similar interests or characteristic and would thus be likely to fit that target demographic as well. People who follow these influencers value their opinions and will trust the products they promote. If your company uses an influencer, consider having them do a takeover of your

influencers

Instagram Story for the day. They can show how they interact with your products and it will be a fresh voice for your followers to hear. (Wondering if Instagram paid advertising is effective? Check out this blog!)

These are just a few things that you can do to get started using Instagram stories and Instagram stories marketing. Your company Story gives you the perfect opportunity to get feedback and personal engagement from followers, develop your brand and increase your social media presence. This is just the beginning of using Instagram Stories to build your business, and we can’t wait to see how else you will use them!

Social Media Marketing and What Makes a Good Campaign

social media marketing campaign

Social Media Marketing & What Makes A Good Campaign

Social media has swept the nation and not only provides a source of entertainment for people across the world but has proven to be an invaluable tool for businesses today. Social media is free yet has the ability to make an impact on the billions of people who use it. According to Hootsuite, A whopping 72% of American adults use social media – Facebook has 2.44 billion monthly active users, Instagram has over 1 billion active monthly users, and Twitter has 49+ million monthly American users. That means that as a business, you can reach about 72% of adults with your goods and services just by utilizing social media – imagine the impact that number could have on your sales! Don’t be fooled, though, just because your company uses social media, maybe even regularly, that doesn’t mean that you are having the biggest impact that you can! A good social media campaign will maximize results while helping with brand awareness and trust! So, let’s break it down, what is a social media campaign and what makes it great?

Setting Attainable Goals

The first step in making a good campaign is to set all goals for the campaign. These goals can range from brand awareness to leads, to pageviews, to link clicks! There are tons of possibilities, but choosing the direction of your campaign is the first step. Once you know which direction you are going with your campaign, you will have to set actual campaign goals. These will include actual conversion numbers that you are trying to reach! Be sure to set goals that are attainable for your business. If your goal is to increase your page likes by 5k over the course of a one-week campaign, although it’s not IMPOSSIBLE, you’re better off keeping your momentum going by setting some more realistic goals for your business that will point you in the right direction with your business.

social media marketing & what makes a good campaign

Investing In Results

The next step to having a successful social media campaign is investing in your results. It can be hard as a business owner to invest in something that you have no guarantee of getting back. But investing in your campaign can also be one of the smartest decisions you make. If you invest the proper amount of money and time into your campaign, you WILL see results. Investing the time and money can mean investing your employees’ time, or investing actual money in paid advertising. Depending on the setup of your business, it could even mean investing in a marketing agency to get you the results you want.

Finding What Makes Your Business Unique

On the more visible side of your social media campaign, finding what makes your business unique and showcasing that to your audience is a great way to host a successful campaign. Showcasing what makes your company different from your competitors is an exceptional way to gain interest from potential customers while also keeping the loyalty of existing clients or customers.

Capitalizing On Trends

Lastly, a great way to form a successful social media campaign is through capitalizing on trends. Social media is where most trends are formed, so capitalize on them! And because trends are always changing, your business has a great opportunity to continually reach your audience on a personal level. Capitalizing on trends can be a great way to expand on brand awareness, as well as provide a fun way to connect with your audience to build up brand trust.

What Are Google Ads?

Google Ads and Advertising Made Simple

Google ads are one of the best ways for you to spend your advertising budget. With over 63,000 searches per second (as of 2018), Google is the number one place that people turn to when looking for a product, service, or piece of information. Thus, it should be pretty important to your company that you turn up at the top of the page when people search for you or your product. So, what are Google Ads exactly? Plain and simple, they are an easy way for your company to come up as one of the first links in Google search results.

Google Ads are paid advertisements that show up as the first few (typically 1-4) results on the search engine results page (otherwise known as SERP). As seen in the image below, they are differentiated from traditional organic results with the green Ad box to the left of the page URL. Why is it important to show up in the top few results? A link that is above the fold (meaning you don’t have to scroll to get to it) is much more likely to be clicked on. Afterall, we as consumers trust that Google will present us with the most relevant results first and will likely click on the first page offered to us. Being in the top results is a highly enviable place to be, as it almost guarantees that users will chose to visit your site, increasing your traffic and thus conversion rate.

what are google ads

So how does it work? Companies looking to participate in Google Ads select keywords that they want to target and then pay to have their site show up when a user types in a search with that keyword. Of course, it’s not quite that simple. Google takes a lot into consideration when deciding if your company is going to show up in the search rankings. Keywords are bought by companies by bids, that is, how much they are willing to spend per click. Multiple companies may be targeting the same keyword, but one may be paying a whole lot more to make sure their site comes up more frequently in the results. Additionally, Google judges the relevancy of your ad to the question being asked, the landing page that it leads to on your site, your prior click through rates, and more to determine if your company’s ad should come up in the coveted top results. It’s important therefore, that you to optimize your bid amount and your Google quality score (which includes all the above relevant information about your ad) in order to bring you the best returns for your paid advertising.

The average cost per click for Google search ads across all industries is $2.32. However, the cost that your company will have to pay for your ad to show up will vary depending on a variety of other factors, including the competitiveness of the keywords you are trying to target, your industry, the location of your business, and the quality score that Google assigns to your ad. After everything has been taken into consideration, Google will let you know exactly how much you can expect to pay for a link click.

Of course, to some companies the idea of paying over $2.00 every time someone clicks their ad sounds insane. Afterall, what if a thousand people end up clicking their link and they end up blowing their marketing budget? The nice thing about Google Ads is that you have a lot of control over how much you want to spend. First of all, you can set a maximum budget, telling Google exactly how much money you have to put towards an ad campaign. Once you’ve reached that maximum, Google will stop showing your ad to people,

so you won’t continue to be charged. You never have to commit to a contract and have the freedom to change your budget or stop your ad whenever you want to. Additionally, you only pay when someone actually clicks on your ad and is taken to your page – not every time that your ad is presented to someone in the SERP. This lets you know that you are only paying for clicks that will likely lead to customer conversions.

Google Ads are a great way for your company to be found online and bring in new customers, particularly when you don’t have great organic rankings. You may have to rearrange your marketing budget to accommodate for the ads, but they are an amazing way to get the results you need. Make sure that your company is getting the traffic it deserves by using Google Ads.

5 Ways to Boost Your Social Media Conversion Rate

How to Capitalize on Your Customer Engagement

We all know that social media is one of the best ways for a company to interact with its customers. We spend so much time on our phones and our social media feeds that we are likely to engage with a company’s most recent post – which then results in us converting over to the company’s product or service. However, it can be challenging to obtain the social media conversion rate that you are looking for. Afterall, you are competing against hundreds if not thousands of other posts to win the attention of your users. You can count yourself lucky if people even see your post, let alone engage with it. If you’re looking to increase your social media conversions, make sure that you understand how your customers engage with your social media. We’ve come up with a few tips that will help you use your resources to boost your social media conversion rates.

Build Social Proof

Which are you more likely to buy, a pair of shoes that has no reviews on Amazon, or a pair that has a 5-star rating with over 200 positive reviews? We as humans are skeptical of companies that are trying to sell things to us. We trust the opinions of other people to help us determine if a company truly provides the amazing product or service that they boast. What you need to do is build the same social proof for your social media feed that reviews and ratings bring to products and services on your website. This looks like engaging with users who love your brand. Create a hashtag for people to use when posting pictures wearing or using your products, reshare customer posts on your own page, or simply dress up the written reviews you have with some graphics and post them straight to your feed! Customer confidence gives your company additional authenticity. People will be more likely to engage with your brand once they know that others have had positive experiences with you.

Focus Your Efforts

While it’s great that social media allows us to reach a wide demographic,

social proof

when trying to increase your conversions you will want to pick a specific audience that you want to focus on. If you know who is likely to interact with your page to and convert over, make sure that the content that you are posting appeals directly to them. Additionally, when pushing out paid advertising, make sure to specify your audience so that your budget isn’t wasted. You don’t want an ad that is supposed to be promoted to women from age 22-35 to show up in the feeds of women aged 45-60 – or worse, MEN’S feeds aged 45-60. Selecting a target audience for your ads will result in your content being displayed to people who are already more likely to engage with your brand, allowing you to bet that they will convert over. Having a focused audience provides a major ROI in the world of conversions.

Do Some Testing

So you’ve determined your audience, but you want to know what they are more likely to respond to. Colors, phrases and images have drastic connotations in our brains and can be incredibly helpful or hurtful to your campaign depending on what you do with them. A/B testing is a method of presenting slightly different versions of the same post or ad to customers in order to see which one is better received. For instance, having the phrase ‘Buy It Now’ on a call to action that takes you to a general shopping page may have less luck than the phrase ‘learn about our products’ – it all depends on your customers! Create different versions of your ads with variations on colors, fonts and images and then monitor how they do until you can determine exactly what makes a user click over to your page.

Engage with Users

Besides adding to your social proof showing that you are a personable and engaging company, directly engaging with users can bring you great insights that you can then turn around to use to increase conversions. If you answer someone’s question in your comments, they will probably be more likely to continue their shopping experience with your company. If you ask followers if they have any questions for you or if they want to know something particular about your company, you are presented with easy topics to blog about that you know people will be interested in clicking over to read – they asked for the topics themselves! Engaging with your users will also help you get to know them and what they are interested in, allowing for more focused content later.

Keep it Clean

Make sure to keep your conversion links clean and clearly visible to users. Post your links in your bio on different social platforms so that users can easily find where they need to click. For any links in your text, make sure to keep them before the “more…” so that people can convert one click earlier than they would if they had to expand your content to find the link. Make sure that any pages that your links are going to are mobile friendly and responsive – you don’t want someone converting over only to bounce of your page before it fully loads because it’s taking too long! Once they are on your page, make sure that any email marketing prompt or landing page that comes up is clear so that individuals know where they can enter their information. Yay for more conversions for you!

These are just a few ways that you can improve your social media conversion rate. Taking into consideration who your audience is allows you to focus your content and thus, increase the likelihood that your social media users will engage with your brand.
